The Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) urged on Thursday the international community and the UN Security Council to take decisive measures to deter Turkey from committing war crimes in northern Syria.

The statement came after Human Rights Watch issued a report on Thursday that Turkey and affiliated armed factions, aka the Syrian National Army (SNA), have committed war crimes near the Tishrin Dam.

The AANES accused Turkey of blatantly violating international humanitarian law, citing a recent drone strike on a crowded marketplace in the city center of Sirrin two days earlier.

According to the statement, the attack resulted in the deaths of 12 civilians, including two children, and left 13 others injured. Additionally, a Turkish drone strike targeted a house in central Kobani on Wednesday, killing two more civilians.

The AANES issued an appeal, stating, “We demand that the international community, the UN Security Council, human rights organizations, and the United Nations take decisive action against Turkey for committing massacres and war crimes against our people in the region.”

It further called for Turkey’s crimes to be referred to the International Court of Justice and urged the international coalition to take immediate steps to halt the attacks.

The statement also urged all Syrian national forces to take a clear stance against Turkey’s occupation and ongoing aggression. It called on them to support the Syrian Democratic Council’s initiative for national dialogue as a pathway to resolving the Syrian crisis.
