6 Belgian women and 16 children of families of ISIS mercenaries were handed over, according to an official handover document between Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria and Belgium State.
Foreign Relations Department of North and East Syria handed over 6 women and 16 children to a delegation from Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, while Belgian special envoy to Syria and its ambassador to Lebanon, Hubert Korman, said that SDF has an important role against ISIS, pointing out that “your fight for your own security is a contribution to global fight against terrorism.”
The official website of Foreign Relations Department of North and East Syria said that a delegation from Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs headed by Ambassador Hubert Korman, Belgian special envoy to Syria and its ambassador to Lebanon, arrived on Sunday, June 19, 2022, to north and east Syria.
The two sides discussed many issues of common interest, and the necessity of a political solution in Syria, in accordance with Security Council Resolution 2254, provided that High Negotiation Committee and Constitutional Committee be reconsidered to represent all the Syrian people with its various components, especially the Kurds, and the Turkish threats and attacks in NE Syria, and the economic and humanitarian situation in the areas of Autonomous Administration and the situation of camps and IDPs in the region, according to the website.
Abd al-Karim Omar was quoted saying: “Turkish threats to invade new areas, taking advantage of Ukrainian crisis, will lead to destabilization in the region and to large waves of displaced people, which will exacerbate the suffering of the people.”
The website also quoted Ambassador Hubert Korman as affirming the Belgian government’s support for a comprehensive political solution that includes all political and social components of Syrian people.
“Our government continues to provide humanitarian support, which benefits the Syrian people and the peoples of NE Syria,” Korman said.
