A European official said on Monday the European Union (EU) confirms the political solution for the Syrian conflict according to the United Nations resolutions.

Luis Miguel Bueno, EU Arabic Spokesperson for the Middle East and North Africa, said the commitment to the political process would lead to a real political transition according to the UN Security Council (UNSC) Resolution 2254.

In an exclusive statement to North Press, Bueno added that the EU would continue supporting the Syrians inside and outside the country through financing its projects.

He indicated that providing more support from the international community regarding accountability is one of the outcomes of the Eighth Brussels Conference, especially supporting the newly established International Independent Institution on Missing Persons.

Bueno stressed the EU’s firm position regarding its refusal to normalize with the Syrian government, to raise the sanctions, and to contribute in the reconstruction unless the Syrian government involves in a real political transition in accordance with the UNSC Res. 2254.
