Mazloum Abdi, Commander in Chief of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), announced early on Wednesday that a U.S.-mediated ceasefire agreement has been reached in the city of Manbij in northern Syria.
Abdi stated on X platform that SDF fighters continue to resist the expanding attacks west of the Euphrates, adding they have successfully negotiated a ceasefire agreement in Manbij through U.S. mediation to ensure the safety and security of civilians.
Manbij recently became the center of intense violence as Turkish-backed armed opposition factions, aka the Syrian National Army (SNA), launched attacks from three fronts.
Locals told North Press that incidents of theft and vandalism targeting Kurdish homes occurred in the city, as well as a disturbing video showing SNA militants killing injured SDF fighters in a hospital.
The SDF commander added that fighters from the Manbij Military Council will be withdrawn under the agreement.
He emphasized that the broader objective remains achieving a ceasefire across all of Syria and initiating a comprehensive political process to shape the country’s future.
